Profile
Dr. Madlensky has provided cancer genetic counseling services for over 25 years. She has practiced in the United States and Canada and was a founding member of the Familial Cancer Risk group of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). Dr. Madlensky works with patients and families to provide personal estimates of cancer risk, order and interpret genetic tests (including the BRCA genes for breast and ovarian cancers; Lynch Syndrome genes for colon and uterine cancers; and numerous other genes related to cancer risk). Importantly, Dr. Madlensky works to personalize a patient’s family history, personal medical history, and genetic information to create an accurate and evidence-based approach to cancer prevention and early detection. As a researcher, Dr. Madlensky has examined the process of clinical genetic testing and follow-up for families with familial cancer risk, the public health implications of cancer genetic testing, quality of life in those at increased risk of cancer, the integration of cancer risk assessment into family practice, and family-level cancer prevention. She also studies the impact of direct-to consumer genetic testing and the relationship between germline and somatic mutations in cancer. She is an investigator on the national WISDOM and GENERATE trials which test the impact of germline genetic testing in the population, using novel service delivery models and personalized cancer risk assessments.
