Profile
Dr. Shweta Joshi is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms of myeloid cell-driven immunosuppression in solid tumors and developing innovative strategies to reprogram pro-tumor macrophages into anti-tumor macrophages. Her work has identified the tyrosine kinase SYK as a critical player in myeloid cell function, opening new avenues for using SYK inhibitors to reprogram the tumor immune microenvironment and enhance T-cell responses. These findings have led to the testing of SYK inhibitors in clinical trials to assess their potential in improving cancer immunotherapy. Alongside her research, Dr. Joshi is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring. She trains postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates, and high school students, integrating her expertise in tumor immunology into her teaching to inspire and develop future scientists. Dr. Joshi earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Central Drug Research Institute, India, and completed her postdoctoral training at UC San Diego.
